More and more clients ask me, “How can I Calm the Fight or Flight Response?”.

What is Fight or Flight?

Fight or flight response is a physiological reaction that occurs in response to a perceived harmful event or attack.

It is an ancient survival system programmed into our brains that helps us flight or fight in case of danger.

Fight or flight mode turns on when we face danger.

After a traumatic event, the fight or flight response switches on for many humans, and they may become stuck in this mode for the rest of their lives.

Also, if you are born into a family that is not safe, your fight or flight mode can be turned on even before birth.

When the fight or flight response is triggered, you experience accelerated heart rate, fast breathing, extreme stress, and anxiety.

This survival state can keep you trapped in an unsafe world, and you cannot trust others.

Fight or Flight Symptoms

The list below illustrates the typical symptoms and signs associated with the fight or flight response:

  • Increased Heart Rate: The heart rate accelerates to pump more blood to the muscles and vital organs.
  • Rapid Breathing: Breathing becomes faster to supply oxygen to the muscles and brain.
  • Dilated Pupils: The pupils of the eyes widen to allow more light in, improving vision.
  • Tense Muscles: Muscles become tense and ready for action to enable quick movement.
  • Sweating: Sweat production increases to regulate body temperature during heightened activity.
  • Heightened Awareness: The senses become more acute, leading to increased alertness.
  • Increased Blood Flow: Blood is redirected from non-essential functions, like digestion, to vital organs and muscles.
  • Decreased Digestion: Digestive processes slow down to divert energy to more immediate needs.
  • Tunnel Vision: Focus narrows to the immediate threat or danger, potentially leading to tunnel vision.
  • Increased Strength and Energy: The body releases adrenaline and other stress hormones, providing a surge of energy and strength.
  • Dry Mouth: Saliva production may decrease as digestion slows down, leading to a dry or sticky feeling in the mouth.
  • Cognitive Changes: The brain shifts its focus to survival, potentially leading to impaired reasoning and decision-making.
  • Nervousness or Anxiety: The stress response can cause feelings of nervousness, anxiety, or restlessness.
  • Gastrointestinal Problems: Stress can lead to gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, stomachaches, or diarrhea.
  • Urge to Flee: The body’s natural response may include a strong urge to escape or flee from the perceived threat.

Calm Fight or Flight with Shamanic Healing Tools

Animals can naturally reset and calm their fight or flight mode, but humans cannot.

However, Shamans have discovered a way to break and calm the fight or flight response.

This is known as the Decoupling process.

Fight or flight mode involves the second chakra heavily.

The related adrenals release stress hormones (i.e., cortisol, adrenaline) into the bloodstream for the human to be ready to either fight or flight.

With the Decoupling process, we calm the second chakra so that the adrenals stop releasing the stress hormones.

When this survival state turns off you can release stress, fear, and anxiety and experience deep peace, serenity, and relaxation.
